Hello leaders,
I invite you to do one thing over the next three days:
Think deeply about what your team members need from you.
You will have your self story about your leadership and what your team needs.
If you are leading seven* others, there will be seven other stories being constantly revised and updated about your leadership. Seven other narratives playing out, assessing the way that you add value and whether you are providing them with what they need.
Those seven stories are important. They are a source of rich insight and can offer great empowerment. They should be of central importance to you.
What are the stories?
What is the content of these stories? What are the themes? How well do all the stories line up? What is similar? What is different?
Wouldn’t it be useful for you, or for leaders in your organisation, to gain greater clarity about these narratives?
What informs the stories?
Your team members are likely to be building their stories based on:
- How they observe the way you behave
- How they observe the way you engage with others
- How they experience the direction and guidance you provide for the team
- How they observe your decision making and thinking processes
- How they experience the impact that you have and how you make them feel
Deepening your understanding of what your team members need from you can provide rich insights and be a great source of empowerment.
We can help you gain these insights. If you would like to know more, contact us today. We have great tools and an awesome team that can support you.
*Leadership and team effectiveness literature indicates a ratio of seven (+/-2) reports to one leader as being about right.
